Welcome to Roonee

About Me

Welcome to Roonee! My name is Alex, and I’m the one woman band behind this blog. While my passion for green living and sustainable travel has always been a big part of who I am, these days, my focus has shifted toward something much more personal and close to my heart: SEN parenting.

As a parent of two wonderful children with disabilities, my life is a mix of unique challenges, learning experiences, and rewarding moments. I started Roonee with the idea of sharing insights on eco-friendly living and travel, but as my journey through SEN parenting deepened, I realized how much I wanted to offer support and share my experiences with other parents walking the same path. That’s why Roonee has gradually evolved to focus much more on SEN parenting—because it’s what I live and breathe every day.

Why SEN Parenting?

Parenting special needs children is a role that comes with unique demands. It’s a road filled with doctor’s visits, therapy sessions, and often, a lot of trial and error. I’ve learned so much from navigating these challenges, and I want to use this platform to share what I’ve found helpful—from managing public meltdowns and handling medical appointments, to the more practical aspects like finding adaptive equipment and traveling as a family with extra needs.

Through my blog, I hope to offer advice, practical tips, and most importantly, solidarity. I know how isolating this journey can sometimes feel, and I want Roonee to be a place where other SEN parents feel seen, understood, and supported.

But What About Green Living?

While SEN parenting takes up a lot of space in my life and blog, my commitment to green living hasn’t disappeared. I believe sustainability isn’t just about making eco-friendly choices for the planet—it’s also about creating a world where everyone, including those with disabilities, can thrive. I still share content about living greener, reducing waste, and tips for eco-conscious families. After all, we’re raising the next generation, and I believe teaching our children about sustainability is just as important as anything else.

Sustainable Travel—Our Way

I also still love to write about travel, but as you can imagine, traveling with special needs children takes a lot more planning. While overseas trips are certainly not off the cards, we’ve fallen in love with UK staycations—enjoying beautiful destinations closer to home while keeping things manageable for our family. When we do travel, sustainability is a key part of our adventures, and I’m always looking for ways to balance the needs of our family with our love for eco-friendly travel.

My Love for Reading

In addition to SEN parenting and green living, reading is another passion of mine that I love sharing on Roonee. Books have always been a way for me to escape, learn, and grow, and I’m constantly juggling different reads—whether it’s something light and fictional or a more challenging, educational non-fiction book.

As a busy parent, reading can sometimes be a rare luxury, but it’s one I prioritize because it helps me recharge and stay grounded. I often share my thoughts on books I’ve read, as well as tips for making time to read even when life is hectic.

Whether you’re a fellow book lover or looking for recommendations, you’ll find a section of Roonee dedicated to reading. Books are my way of learning about the world, relaxing after a long day, and expanding my mind—and I hope to inspire others to do the same.
