roonee Llandudno on the North Welsh Coast has been a popular tourist destination for over a century, and is still a magical place to visit today. Alice Liddell, who was the real life inspiration for Lewis Carol’s Alice in Wonderland, holidayed in Llandudno with her family. Today, you can follow trails around the town to see Alice in Wonderland statues and paving slabs as you go. This is a lovely destination for any bookworms who would like some loosely bookish travel!
Llandudno
Llandudno is easy to get to by road or rail. If you’re driving up to North Wales then Llandudno is just a few minutes off the A55 coastal road and there are plenty of places to park up while you explore. If you are travelling by rail then the Llandudno train station is in the centre of town and it’ll only take you a few minutes to walk to the seafront!
The town itself feels like a Victorian time capsule and you can see countless snippets of times gone by as you walk around. The promenade is a good place to start if you want to explore, and you can enjoy the promenade stalls and shops along the way.
Like much of North Wales, Llandudno is a town with a mountainous backdrop. From the pebble beach you’ll be able to see the hills of the Great Orme and mountains behind. The scenery is second to none, and it’ll be impossible to resist taking a few holiday snaps for the album. If you want to get a better view of the town and the surrounding scenery then take a trip in a cable car!
Alice in Wonderland Trail
As you wonder, you’ll come across various nods to Alice in wonderland. Tearooms named after the book, statues, and shops are all over the town. There is an official map you can buy from the Llandudno Tourist Information Centre that will take you round the White Rabbit Walking Trail which consists of 55 cast bronze footprints hidden in the pavements. By following this trail you’ll see the amazing Alice in Wonderland statues and sculptures around the town.
