North Shire, located in North Yorkshire, has the same level of magic of the Warner Bros Harry Potter Studios, or Hobbiton in New Zealand, without the crowds of people. You can get up close and personal with the amazingly thought out details in all of the accommodation options, and feel like you’re part of your favourite fantasy world for a night or two. Unlike many specialist themed accommodations, North Shire is fantastically child friendly which makes it a really refreshing option for families looking for a truly magical stay.
What’s on offer at North Shire?
North Shire is a glamping site and venue with a number of magical residencies to stay in. There is a handful of shepherd’s huts and a magical dorm room to pick from, but the really magical options come in the form of a replica of Hagrid’s Hut from the Harry Potter movies, and a Hobbit Hole. Everything is kitted out with everything needed to truly immerse yourself in a fantasy land for a few days and nights.
You can find a gallery of photos on the North Shire website, but the details are truly delightful. The hobbit hole has been completed with all kinds of hobbity details including hobbit portraits above the mantel, beautiful curtains for privacy in the bedroom nooks, a freestanding bathtub, and stained glass windows. There’s a TV along with all of the extended editions of Lord of the Rings, the Hobbit, and a number of Lord of the Rings related board games, trivia packs, and puzzles.
What makes it so child friendly?
Once you get to North Shire, everything is surprisingly child friendly, whether you have a babe in arms, or older kids. The dorm room, Hagrid’s hut, and the hobbit hole are all accessible and suitable if you’ve got smaller children, toddlers, and babies. A really lovely touch is the playground that can be found in the centre of the whole glamping site. It’s worth noting that North Shire is the most easily accessible by car, and much more difficult to get to via public transport.
North Shire makes a great base for days out along the North Yorkshire Coast. Whitby and Saltbury-By-The-Sea are just a 20 minute drive away and are perfect for seaside days out.
