If you want to travel more sustainably, but aren’t sure where to start, here are three simple things you can do to potentially reduce your environmental impact!
1. Choose environmentally conscious destinations
Do a bit of research and see which destinations on your travel bucket list are environmentally conscious. By giving your tourism (and therefore your money) to somewhere that is heavily invested in being earth conscious, you’ll be putting money into an economy that’s going to make a difference. If you’re not sure where to start, do a bit of research into Scandinavian countries and the Netherlands as these are some great places for sustainable travel!
2. Think carefully about how you travel
One of the greatest ways you can reduce your carbon footprint and travel far more sustainably, is taking fewer long haul flights. See if you can swap a trip across the pond, for something much closer to home. Find somewhere amazing to visit on the same continent as you, or maybe even in your home country!
When you arrive in your destination, consider your different options when it comes to travelling around. Do you really need to get a taxi from the airport to your accommodation? Public transport is often a much cheaper and greener alternative that’s well worth looking into!
If you’re staying somewhere you can rent a bike to see the city, then go for it! Cycling is an amazing green way to see the sites and get some fresh air while you’re at it!
3. Take a greener holiday wardrobe with you
What do you usually pack for when you’re going on holiday? If you’re someone that tends to go holiday shopping before every trip you take, then think about making some changes. Do you really need a whole new wardrobe? Do you already have everything you need? If you really need some new things for your trip, have a hunt through some of your local thrift stores, or browse online vintage sites for some amazing preloved pieces.
