10 Eco Friendly Travel Products

Whether you’re travelling alone, with family, or friends, consider making some eco friendly swaps to your travel essentials for a more earth conscious trip.

1. Solid Deodorant

Solid deodorant is a great eco friendly travel option. Firstly, you won’t be buying unnecessary plastic packaging as solid deodorant tends to come in cardboard casing, or even naked! You also won’t get caught out at customs for having any liquids on you which is a nice bonus. Try brands like Earth Conscious or Ben & Anna to get you started if you’re new to solid deodorant.

2. Travel Flasks

Taking a flask with you on your travels is such a simple eco friendly travel hack, but one that a lot of people simply don’t think about! Make sure your flask is empty when you go through security at the airport, and fill it up with water (or your favourite hot drink) as soon as you get the opportunity. Klean Kanteen is a fantastic brand for flasks, and they really are top of the range. They come in many different sizes and with different lid attatchments depending on if you drink more hot or cold drinks.

3. Solid Shampoo

Much like solid deodorant, taking solid shampoo with you on holiday is a good eco swap, and a really easy one. It can take a few different tries to find a good eco solid shampoo that suits your hair type, but once you’ve found it you won’t look back. It won’t take up much room in your luggage, isn’t going to leak, and is better for the environment.

4. Solar Phone Charger

Have you ever been caught short on phone charge? A really easy way of charging up your phone, or a power bank to use later, is via solar power! This one is a particularly great idea if you’re travelling somewhere warm and sunny -make the most out of that sun!

5. Reef Safe Sun Cream

Next time you need to buy sun cream for your holiday, make sure it’s reef safe. Simply put, this means that it contains no chemicals that are harmful to ocean reefs, and you can be safe in the knowledge that you are protecting your skin and the environment. Usually, reef safe sun creams are clearly marked on the bottle, but there are plenty of great options available online if you’re not sure where to start. We love sun cream from both Green People and Incognito.

6. Bamboo Cutlery

It’s always worth having a set of cutlery with you when you’re out and about to save you having to use anything that’s designed to be single use. Whatever you choose, be mindful of carrying a knife through airport security with you. A wooden or bamboo knife is far less likely to be confiscated than something metal!

7. Plastic Free Period Products

Due to be on your period while you’re away? Don’t rely on single use period products, and instead, get yourself some eco friendly plastic free period essentials. Depending on your preference, you might like to try cloth sanitary pads, menstrual cups, or period pants. Whatever you decide to try, you can pop it into a wetbag once it’s used which will keep any unwanted smells and dampness contained until you get to laundry facilities.

8. Eco Snack Storage

Many of us don’t go anywhere without snacks, and travelling is no exception. Instead of buying snacks in packets along the way, why not consider taking some preprepared, dried snacks with you from home? Use something like a material snack bag, or steel snack box to avoid any unnecessary packaging.

9. Eco Repellent Spray

If you’re heading somewhere where you might need insect repellent spray to ward off any unwanted visitors, consider a chemical-free option. Brands like Incognito offer effective sprays, creams, and mists, without using anything that could be potentially harmful to you or the environment.

10. Eco Straws

Eco straws have become a staple in many people’s houses now, but take a few with you when you’re travelling. They tend to really come in handy if you want to experience the nightlife somewhere new without using a handful of completely unnecessary plastic straws!
